Cleaner V Housekeeper
Cleaner V Housekeeper – the distinction between the two roles.
Often, individuals refer to cleaners and housekeepers as the same, though call me particular, there’s a difference in the roles, cost and tasks.
The main distinction between housekeeping and cleaning is that cleaning services focus on just improving the cleanliness of an area, whereas housekeeping also includes tidying up and making the space look inviting.
Still not sure? Let us explain it in more detail… In the context of a normal family home a cleaner would:
- Mop the floor
- Scrub the sink
- Wipe marks off the walls and cupboards
- Clean the appliances and so on
Housekeepers would include cleaning the space but also doing extra tasks such as:
- Putting shoes away (adults and children’s)
- Loading/unloading the dishwasher
- Hanging fresh tea towels on the rack
- Make sure all of the items on the worktop are tidy
- Items in the drawers and cupboards are clean and well organised and everything is easy to find
In your living room, a cleaner would dust, vacuum, dust ad spot clean the walls, glass and blinds. A housekeeper will do that too, but would also puff up the couch cushions, put away spare blankets and ensure all of the picture frames are straightened.
In the bedroom, a cleaner will dust and vacuum, and again spot cleaning. A housekeeper will change the bed linen and remake the bed so that it looks like it’s being featured in a luxury real estate magazine.
In the en-suite, all of the amenities will be organised and laid out to picture perfection. It’s the finishing touches and attention to detail that separates ordinary cleaning from executive housekeeping.
At Cheshire Cleaning Co; we do not provide domestic cleaning or housekeeping at the moment, our focus is contract cleaning (B2B) clients, though when we do dive into this, it will be housekeeping as our standards are impeccable and we always go that step further for our clients.
There’s a difference in the price; for domestic cleaning and housekeeping, as there are more detailed cleaning, organisation and household management duties required this comes at a premium and so is reflected within the costings.
