How to clean slate flooring
How to clean slate flooring… Slate is a natural stone resulting from layers of clay and volcanic ash being compacted and hardened over millions of years.
Slate flooring can be used for exterior or interior flooring, cut into slabs or tiles. Colours go from blacks and greys to greens and purples depending on the chemical composition.
The natural layering in slate can produce tiles with a split, uneven surface. Slate is not damaged by alkali cleaners but strong cleaning solutions should not be necessary. Slate has similar properties to flagstone.
Natural (untreated) slate is less porous than most other stone products but nevertheless, it needs the correct treatment to protect the slate from staining or water ingress.
